Diaspora Skills Transfer Program for Southern Sudan

Visitation Assessment Team

An essential first component of the Diaspora Skills Transfer Program for Southern Sudan was the selection of a volunteer visitation assessment team composed of educated and experienced Southern Sudanese, currently living in American Diaspora communities. The team traveled to Southern Sudan in January and February 2006 for three weeks to make assessment of the current conditions; to meet with Ministry of Health and Education officials at the national, state, and local levels; to build relationships with existing NGOs; and to promote a positive image of the program in Southern Sudan. The team’s reports detailing their technical and personal experiences will provide essential information to help AED in the implementation of the program.  Throughout the duration of the Diaspora program, members of the assessment team will serve as an Advisory Council providing ongoing consultations and assisting with volunteer recruitment.
