People, Energy and Development (PED)

Period of Performance: February 2, 2004February 1, 2009

AED is one of four prime contractors on USAID’s People, Energy and Development (PED) IQC.  The primary objective of this IQC is to facilitate more effective and efficient knowledge management in the energy sector and to establish linkages between energy services and the strategic objectives of USAID’s three Pillar Bureaus: Economic Growth, Agriculture, and Trade; Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance; and Global Health. While highlighting the interdependence of energy and these other sectors, work under the PED IQC will focus on:

  • institutional strengthening;
  • energy policy reform;
  • environmental and related infrastructure;
  • promoting greater efficiency of energy production, distribution and use;
  • fostering the commercialization and use of renewable energy technologies and  technologies to reduce energy-related environmental degradation and mitigate emissions of greenhouse gases; and
  • defining the role of stakeholders, and promoting their participation.

Specific activity funding will be awarded through task orders that are bid and awarded among the four IQC contractors. To date, AED has been awarded two task orders.  Summaries of these task orders are included below.

Ms. Mary Worzala has joined AED as the PED IQC Manager, bringing nearly 20 years of international development experience in the energy sector and a proven record of project management, implementation and evaluation. The AED team consists of ARS International, Energy and Security Group (ESG), Institute for Public-Private Partnerships (IP3), International Resources Group (IRG), and PA Consulting Group.
