African Agriculture Capacity Development Training Initiative

Ethiopia, Mali, South Africa, Zambia

The Africa Agriculture Initiative is a two-part program to provide needs assessments and short-term training in 12 countries throughout Africa. AED is one of three contractors for the Africa Agriculture Initiative, and, through CIT, works in four African countries:  Ethiopia, Mali, South Africa, and Zambia.

The objective of the initiative is to develop the capacity of Africans to improve agricultural productivity in order to reach the longer-term goal of reducing hunger in Africa. CIT, along with its partner organizations, conducted needs assessments in each of the four countries to develop long-term training plans and to identify farmers and local organizations that would benefit from short-term training programs. To these ends, CIT is developing a longer-term training plan in Mali and has assisted over 150 participants through a number of conferences in Ethiopia, South Africa, and Zambia.
