The conflict has encouraged and reinforced animosity between Abhhaz and Georgian youth who have been traumatized and disadvantaged by the war. This has been an impediment to positive change. The Young Leaders program aimed to assist with the psychosocial rehabilitation of the participating youth and contributed to a sustained resolution of conflict by addressing the needs of the youth who are affected. The youth who participated serve as leaders for a peaceful future. To achieve broader impact, the Young Leaders program has combined exchanges and training with community development activities, leadership development, and local capacity building of non-governmental organizations to serve young war victims and those less fortunate.
